Got time to blog?

I've not, obviously, things have overtaken me over summer, working, cadets etc. Now being staff at cadets I have had tonnes to do, lots to organize and sort out, I've also been away on holiday with Sarah and co to France, to Llanbedr with cadets, both very good weeks!!

Now, I am preparing for my wing commission board, which I am shit scared about, I have had no time to revise or anything and feel very under prepared, but hey, not the end of the world I guess, fingers crossed though.

Has anyone seen the new series, "Heroes", wow, what a show, fantastic work, Sarah and I love it, have watched all of the first series and can't wait till the next one!!

Anyway, a few rants before I go and maybe not post for another year!

The GMTV phone "scam" - Why the hell have GMTV been sued over this, it was a third party running the phone lines and GMTV didn't even know about it, the whole story is ridiculous!

What the hell are these electronic disposable toothbrushes about?! They are always banging on about "saving the planet" on the TV, yet companies are allowed to make these awful products. If you haven't seen them, its basically an electronic toothbrush which you cannot replace the head of, so once its used, the whole thing goes in the bin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amy Whinehouse - Need I say more? She should be boycotted 100%. Time and time again these "big" names get away with doing drugs in the public eye, yet they are allowed to carry on being who they are. Kids look up to these people, if a politician does the slightest thing wrong, they are out of a job before you know it, never to be heard of again, why not the same treatment for musicians.

Prison strike - ohhhh, don't get me started, these government workers and their poncy unions get my back up. Why can't they just shut-up and get on with their job like everyone else (everyone else who doesn't work for the government that is). Its like they do so much work, they just expect to have a regular pay rise, if its going to be regular like that then how much are they going to be paid in 100 years time? Doesn't bear thinking.

OK, last one, now I respect the boys and girls over in Iraq, but when they come on the news, saying they need to come home early, or they want compensation for this that and the other, well thats just wrong. They sign up to do a job, admittedly, a job that's different to most, but they have agreed to do it and should realize how hard or challenging it's going to be. Maybe they should swap with the prison workers....................

Updated?

Well, so much for keeping this blog updated, never mind, things are settling down now. Finished my degree a few weeks ago and got my official results last Thursday and in the post yesterday, I got a 2.1 (get in!!) so very hapy with that.

Apart from that, I've been working three days a week at my new job, well haredly new, I've been there part time for about 6 months. Thats been fairly boring so far, lots of work from home, hopefully it will get going soon!

Sarah is back from Uni, so been seeing a lot of her which is good, we had a meal at the Standford Bridge yesterday which was fantastic. Well recommended to anyone, great service, food, enviroment, not too pricey, local enough for me.

If I could remember them then I could fill this post up with rants from the last month, but I won't, just one, why to tennis players (especially women) have to make stupid noises EVERYTIME THEY HIT THE BALL? It is possibley the most disturbing thing to listen too and just sounds aweful, its not like they even need to do it.

Oh, final point, I've got my new computer, its sexy, more about that some other time though.

One more day......

Tomorrow ends my 17 years of education and I can't wait. I've got my new PC on order, which I will do a write up on over the coming weeks, along with that photo frame!!!! I also have a job lined up working for a small IT company, small business support, so lots to learn and get on with.

I meant to blog this on Saterday, but I got busy. There was a YBF special on, described as "All New".... errr, it wasn't, it was "All You've Seen This Crap Before". How dare they even try and advertise it as "All New", so, that made my steak taste worse, my parents seem to love the show, still.....

Stop this madness, its getting boring!!!!!

I'm really fed up now, I don't care who dis-agrees, or says I'm mean or heartless for saying things like this, but Madeleine McCann should not be in the media anymore, its old news, there's more important things happening, whats going on with the world?! Are members of the public so obsessed with this story that they have to see it on the news, in adverts, jezz, there's even a poster at my local Tescos. This craps just being rammed down our throats!

The cheek of Madeleine's parents in all of this, I'd love to know who's paying for the parents to stay in Portugal? For their food and accommodation? For the advertising on TV? The posters and fliers? The general public maybe? All those stupid enough to send in donations to this outrageous cause, they have a dame Paypal link on their website for frig sake, why haven't we seen this happen with any other case of kidnapped children.

For one, both parents are doctors, so why should they be entitled to ANY kind of donation from the public, surely their high salaries would cover all of their costs, but no, they get to live it up with the £374,352.75 they have to date.

Secondly, is it their high positions as doctors that has prevented social services from coming round and taking their other kids from them? After all, they were blatantly negligent towards their children when they left them unattended so they could go to the bar, maybe the £374,352.75 could pay for the child care they were offered?

How many kids have gone missing sine Madeleine did and haven't been in the news? If every missing child was covered in the news as much as Madeleine then it would have to be three times as long or need its own channel.

I don't understand why this case has been covered the way it has, but it makes no sense to me, shes no different to any other missing child, so why should she be treated so.

more moans!!!

Well done to the Liverpool fans who once again proved why football should be banned completely as being the most violent sport invented. Well, it could be a nice game I'm sure if the fans didn't beat the hell out of each other and the authorities afterwards. You big bloody babies "oohhhh, we lost, boo hoo, so lets do something about it". Jezz, you don't see this kind of behavior at any other sport, its ridiculous, and those involved should be ashamed, go and watch it on TV if you can't take the loosing.

Now, while being careful what I say here, I'm bored of Madeleine McCann, do you think shes the only kid in the world thats gone missing. Fair enough, the parents have managed to keep her in the media spotlight, as thats hard to do, but can you imagine how parents of other missing kids must feel, seeing Madeleine getting all this attention, when their children are still out and missing?

At the end of the day the parents were irrisponsible leaving their kids on their own at all, even if they were "only 10ft" from the building. I'm not saying they deserve what happened, no parent deserves that, but I'm sure they've had plenty of time to think about things.

YBF

How crap is You've Been Framed nowadays? Oh, right, just me that actually watches it in the first place?

It is the only thing on TV on a Saturday night when I'm having tea (steak night wooo), so its that or nothing, I'm seriously considering silence over YBF though.

Non of the clips they play are new anymore, I have seen them all before and this fact is getting very boring. I myself have sent clips into YBF (us messing around at cadets) and one of my clips was shortlisted, but did they hell ever play it.

No, we have to put up with that stupid guy who crys while saying his wedding voes (seen it 4 times) or the budgie that sings The Adams Family theme song (seen it 3 times). Not to mention the endless 'fake' clips, not just 'fake', but OBVIOUSLY 'fake'

Can't ITV just put a blank screen and some music on for 1 hour to fill the time before the half decent TV starts? Vernon Kay's Game show Marathon is at least decent TV, especially when they do Bullseye!!!!

Politicians are dame con-artists

Jezz these guys piss me off, why don't any of them answer the questions they are asked. Did anyone see the Jeremy Paxmon feature today? Chatting about the house of commons trying to make themselves exempt from the freedom of information act, haha, isn't that just THE biggest load of crap you have EVER heard in your life!!!?!?! I could write a book on how loony that is, how contradictory and object defeating.

Anyway, this MP 'knob-jockey' was waffling on about how the new bill would stop people getting access to private letters sent in by members of the public, which is apparently already covered under law AND was the only thing he had to say for the whole interview. But he just ignored any question directed towards the fact that the new bill would ALSO make it impossible to find out all the 'tax-paid business trips' these guys go on each year, or how many million they spend on stamps selling stuff on eBay every year (stuff they nick when they go round Tony's house "genuine toilet paper used by the PM".

So yeh, that wound me up, why should these guys be voting on a bill to cover their arses, if only half of them weren't bent as the top of a lamppost, then it might get blocked!

Thanks for honest people

Just got back from Uni, and thank goodness there are still honest people in this world.

I had just left Uni and was about 5 mins down the road (driving), suddenly realised I had left my dame mobile in the shared computer room!!! I eventually got back to Uni after being stuck behind some old guy going at 30mph in a 50, and found my phone was no where to be seen, but a bag had been left at the same computer I was using.

So I made my way to the Computer Science office to see if someone had just handed it in, the lady at the office said there was nothing at all. But just behind me a girl also came into the office saying she was looking for a Martin Moores doing the systems analysis and design course!

My lucky day hey, so I said "well that's me!!!", she gave me my phone and I thanked her profusely.

It turns out she had found my phone, found the "Home" number in there, rang it of her own phone and chatted to my Dad, who told her my name and course e.t.c. My Dad forgot what course i was doing, so just read the title off an assignment sheet from my desk at home, hence the "Systems Analysis and Design".

I'm gutted I didn't get the girls name (calm down Sarah), just so I could give her a proper thanks in an email or something, but I didn't, so this will have to do. But the honesty and the fact that she even used her own phone to ring my house amazed me.

So thank you so much, to the girl in the red leather jacket (I think that's what it was).

The 'Clever' Eggheads

Anyone seen that naff quiz show, The Eggheads?

The brains of Britain compete against joe public to win a cash prize.

Trouble is, its completely fixed and obviously so. The competitors have the choice of which Egghead they play against, they choose based on the topic that has been selected for that round, supposidly picking the weaker player in that area.

So, whenever geography comes up, they always choose CJ (the gay one) to play against, he just so happens to be the best player at geography, whats all that about?!?!?!

And all the Eggheads are so dame cocky, they don't just know everything, they know they know everything and all of the questions that everyone else gets, its so irritating, their whole facial expressions when someone else doesn't know a question, "What an idiot, everyone knows that!"

Phew, home straight

Well blog watchers (Sarah), I know you've been awaiting my next post, so here it is

I have honestly been busy, too bust to even write a small blog entry, so here's a bit of catching up, not too much has happened really.

Firstly, Sarah's birthday present went well, I can now say it was a digital photo frame! Being inspired by the great people at Custom PC when they did an article on DIY digital photo frames made out of old laptops. So I got a custom frame made in Northwich, got a laptop and wireless card off eBay and with some help from my Dad (thanks Dad!!) it all works great, but will write a full review of that asap.

Apart from that, I've had two coursework handins last week, pretty confident about those, ones was databases which I've been doing for dissertation anyway, so that should be cool, the other was Fulfilment and Logistics, which like a few of my modules has little if anything to do with IT, but hey, it went ok.

So, now its just dissertation, who said you can't do the whole thing in 2 weeks? Well not quite, but it has doubled in size in that time, just polishing a few things off now, have sent what I have done so far to my tutor, hopefully will get some feedback from that. Just got to print and bind it, hand in is 12:00 on Thursday.

After that, few more assignments, 1 exam, then on the 5th of June, I FINISH!!!!!!!

17 years of education comes to a close, now that, I can't wait for.

Finally, I'd like to finish with a question, remind me why we all hate 'chavs'?

Oh yeh, because 4 of them just blew it past my house on the 'mile straight' at fuck knows what speed, side by side racing each other. I hope you all crash and burn, save the innocent people whos lives you are sure to ruin before you wake up, grow up and get a fucking life!!!

Rant ends

Dettol, FACT

I'm really surprised the NHS hasn't struck a deal with the makers of Dettol (household cleaner) for either the secret behind the product or some kind of mass purchase, it would solve a whole number of problems that might stop it going downhill. Quoting from the Dettol advert:

"Dettol kills MRSA, the flu virus.........."

WOW, that's quite a claim to make, no one else seems to have sussed how to kill MRSA yet, its killing all these people, plaguing the wards, yet a quick spray round with Dettol can sort it right out!

Lucky Welsh people for tomorrow with the smoking ban coming in, roll on the rest of Britain (only England left now!).

Scouts

OK, I come across a lot of crazy health and safety rules, being in the Air Cadets and I guess its the same across the board with the bubble wrap world we live in. But one organisation that never ceases to amaze me is the Scouts.

Some things I have learnt with the Air Cadets while out walking/hiking:

1. Never walk in less than groups of 4, is someone gets hurt, that's one person to stay with them and two to go for help, simple

2. Never walk down big, dangerous main roads, goes without saying.

So what did I see the Scouts doing today, they were walking down a main road in groups of 2!! Whoever was in charge of these guys needs talking to, very dangerous stuff.

Sarah's back today, only a few hours now, haven't seen her since I was last in Cardiff 4 weeks ago!!! So very much looking forward to that, I also get to give her her birthday present, which I can't wait for. I still can't say what it is, but it turned out much better than I could have hoped for.

Car Boot!

I was at my local car boot the other day in Weaverham, (I also found out that Sarah has never been to one!). Not that she is missing out I suppose, because I have never been to a car boot where there was so much crap being sold!!!! It was shocking, I was almost laughing most of the way round at the tat people thought they were going to sell, broken picture frames, really really old board games e.t.c. About the only thing that was selling was PS2 games. How long if this stuff going to be in circulation? Will we see the same old crap in years to come when its even more out of date? No one wants to buy that old VCR now, never mind in a couple of years.

There was also a couple of high school girls with a stall, selling cakes to abolish the slave trade, I guess they would have to build a time machine first so they could go back a few hundred years and help out, good luck to them though.

I also did my good deed for the day, there was an old couple bartering with one guy over the price of a complex Lego Technic model, which happens to be the same one that I have at at home from my childhood. The problem with the one being sold was that it had no instructions making it impossible to make! So I boldly volunteered to scan in and email then the instructions, which they were very appreciative for. I got their email address, which they read "w w w dot" (the older generation) and off I went.

It started to dawn on me what a big task I had taken on, the instruction manual for this thing was over 100 pages long, how long would it take me to scan, rotate and crop all of those pages??? So a quick search on the net lead me to the Lego website, where, luckily, they have already done all the hard work and PDF'd all of the manuals up, so I emailed the link to that across with full instructions on how to get Adobe and open it up e.t.c. Sorted.

Another strange thing happened to me at Tescos the other day, a women was asking where something was in the shop, so I told her and that was that, she then asked me
"do you do the lottery?",
I said "yes, just go to customer services and they will sort you out",
she said "no, do YOU do the lottery?"
I said "what? Me personally?"
she said "yes, yes"
I said "well, no, I don't"
she said "oh, ok"

and that was it, she walked off, to late for me to ask why the hell she wanted to know! So that left me confused.

Sarah's present is coming along well, I can write all about it at the weekend hopefully when I have given it to her.

Sorry Plusnet!

Well, turns out I was wrong, maybe....

Not been much to write about for the last few days, just been getting on with Uni work, getting me down as always, dissertation isn't looking like much so far, very bitty and, well, crap.

Also been working on Sarah's Birthday present, which of course I can't talk about much because up until now it is still a surprise, full write up when its finished though.

Now I've mentioned Sarah, I suppose she should have a formal introduction in my blog. Sarah is my long term girlfriend and soul mate, we have been together for over 1 year and a half and its all 'rosy in the garden'. Sarah is 2 years younger then me, but she is equally as crazy and on the same mental level, which makes for a good relationship, not many girls would put up with me for more than a day!

She went off to Cardiff University in September last year, so I haven't seen her as much as I would have liked, but we seem to be managing just fine on an every other weekend basis.

So, back to Plusnet, after me moaning at the over their naff service, they promptly emailed me back saying it was all my fault. Apparently, my router synced with them (randomly) at a lower speed than normal, which it did, because I saw it happen. So then, BT's equipment dropped my line rate because of this low sync, which makes sence.

But when my router re-synced back to its normal speed (when I re-booted it), BT's equipment is not as quick to put the line rate as they are to lower it, so it would take "3-5 days"!!!! How can they drop the line speed instantly, but not put it back up in the same way.

So anyway, just after Plusnet emailed me the speed went back up again, strange coincidence maybe? The "it's BT's problem" was just excuse of the day at Plusnet HQ?.......

Finally, I will finish with a moan, whats all this rubbish about apologies for the slave trade how ever many years ago? Its crap, that's how people lived then, it was affected as normal behaviour, so how can we, in the modern day, criticise that way of life. There has been a plethora of TV shows on TV about the whole thing, it just seems to be a bit out of hand, sure its good to learn about what went on, but not to be banging on about how wrong it was. It was wrong, yes, but only by TODAY'S standards and moral beliefs.

And why the hell should anyone apologise for it, that IS crap, how can several generations on be expected to apologise on behalf of the people from the past, this has happened before on other issues.

Coursework and Plusnet

I'll start with coursework, I'm slowly getting there with my dissertation, its way behind schedule and its going to start getting worse because I have assignments to do AS WELL, but getting there. I've been stuck on normalization for the past few days, just confuses the hell out of me, I'm starting to understand it though, thanks to Guy at Chester Uni for the handouts he gave me today and alundavid on the CustomPC forums for going out of his way to help me out.

Doing normalization has kind of been like (and reminds me of) things like sub netting and binary and hex mathematics, they both took me ages to get used to, but once it clicks in you head, its easy!

Now, trying to do all this work is not helped by a crap Internet Service Provider, mines Plusnet. 2 years ago they were top of the game, now they can't keep up with the demand (but they are still selling the product) and they are loosing customers like crazy, I might be one of them.

I have had a couple of run ins with them about the speed of service they provide, I am supposed to get 2mb/s which tends to max out at about 220kb/s. I can get this no problem and have done since ADSL max was installed at my exchange in Comberbatch.

But a couple of times now they have "limited" my service for no good reason, I haven't gone over my allowance and they would not provide a reason for this limit in service. Last time around they removed it and it has been fine since........ until yesterday.

Now, I can't break 30kb/s, which is on all accounts ridiculous for what I am paying for, so I have sent them another bitchy message asking them to remove the restrictions, we will see.

Nothing

Well, nothing to moan about today, not done much coursework as usual, up hill struggle with that, hope it all works out in the end!

Just watched the new "300" film, about Battle of Thermopylae, it was fantastic, really enjoyed the whole thing. Just been reading about the battle on Wikipedia and the film seems to follow history to the letter. This makes a change from usual films that stray from reality for the purposes of the film and audience. I recommend you to see it when its out in the UK, I watched a special "pre-release" version

Adverts

OK, today's moan is about sheilas (bloody) wheels and Dove

Firstly, Dove, remember a few months ago they had an advertising campaign (which is ongoing in the background) which promoted natural beauty, it exposed what really goes on when a "models" photo is taken and enhanced e.t.c. See video:

But, while watching the TV during lunch, I saw a new Dove advert bigging up fake tanning lotion and how if you've got a fake tan on then you can expose more of your skin, natural beauty???

Sheilas Wheels is another advert that just takes the mick, I understand that in the grand scheme of things, women are safer drivers, although that is debatable considering the number or run-ins with dizzy young female drivers I have had.

So they advertise you cheaper car insurance because "ladies" are better drivers, yet, in every single advert, the "dizzy blonds" are depicted as being bad drivers:

1. In one advert they drive a car off a cliff
2. In another, they are all sat in the back seat while a dog drives.
3. In every advert they are doing their makeup and paying no attention to the road.

Now, maybe this is irrelevant, but are they just taking the mick with these adverts, its like saying "we know women are bad drivers, but its still a fact that they get cheaper insurance, so up yours".

Well Sheilas Wheels, up yours too.

Oh, and I saw that council guy checking the signposts, hes made his way to Rudheath, his notebook must be huge, 2 weeks doing that same thing must be boring as hell.

1st post

Well, I'm not expecting anyone to read this, it's more for my own entertainment and records.

I decided to start this blog, because, at least once a week, I am amazing and dumbfounded by something utterly ridiculous happening in the world, be this the governments crazy ideas on spending, the local Vale Royal Council and their goings on, or the world in general. I'm always moaning to myself about these things, so I decided it was time to start writing things down, even if it's just to show my kids in 10/20/30 years time.

I'm going to start with something that happened last week. Looking out of the window I saw a council looking man messing around with sign posts outside. He proceded to measure various bits of the sign, height, distance from road, width of sign e.t.c. I guess the reason for this was because Vale Royal council have a 100 page book on the correct positioning of a road traffic sign to stop them from being sued.

Surely this is ridiculous? Do signs normally move from when they are first put in the ground? I bet the guy was on at least £10 per hour for what he was doing, like everyone else on a council wage, they get paid ridiculous amounts of money for not doing very much.

To top it off, when I went to work later on, the guy had made his way from Little Leigh (outside my house), to Winnington just outside Northwich, he was still measuring sign posts, taking photos and documenting the whole thing in his notebook. As I was waiting at the lights, he proceded to take a "redness" colour chart out of his pocket and measure the "redness" of the 30mph on Winnington bridge!!!!!!

I later found out that drivers can actually get away with speeding offences if the speed limit warning sign was not "red" enough.

Madness, enough said.
